About the event
Artist Statement:
I have a lifelong interest in photography. Beginning in high school, it is an avocation I pursued through the decades, sometimes intensely, sometimes sporadically, but always with a desire to create images that conveyed meaning and beauty. Retirement from a career in public service, followed shortly by the pandemic, provided the time and space for me to devote concentrated effort to that avocation, and particularly into my first creative love, black and white photography. Landscapes, primarily of Montana, are my main subject matter, although the small details of life and light that surround us also capture my attention.
I am influenced by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, the photographers of the WPA, and the photojournalists of the Life and Look era. The historical work of Haynes and Curtis inspire me, as do the works of Stieglitz, Steichen, and Cartier Bresson. In today’s world, where all of us hold camer…
